Imagine my surprise upon unrolling my Southern Living plans when Glenn said he'd built that house before!
Years before, the Thomas' were ready to move to Virginia to be closer to their children. While still living in PA, Dotty Thomas was thumbing through the pages of her new Southern Living when "the Idea House caught my eye - I fell in love with it!" she exclaims. That's when the Thomas' knew they would build.
"I walked into the Smith & Robertson office cold one day after finding their name in the Yellow Pages… I stopped looking when I met Glenn," recalls Dick Thomas. Dick felt comfortable with Glenn. "He seemed genuinely interested in doing something for us. We were on the same wavelength."
After pricing that first set of plans, the Thomas' had some decisions to make. "Glenn was very sympathetic about our budget and encouraged us to consider a one floor plan," Dick remembers. "But he always understood to keep the curb appeal and the layout," smiles Dotty. They ended up with another Southern Living plan they love.
The building process was smooth. "Our foreman was a gem: very tolerant and understanding," beams Dotty. "He made the whole process very easy, humoring us with anything we wanted to do or change; and offering terrific ideas to improve the look and functionality."
Now, after a few years in their Southern Living home, the Thomas' still get the "Wow! Who was your builder?" in an awed tone of voice from guests. That's when Dick proudly points out details like custom trim and wider gracious cased openings that make all the difference.
But, to Dotty, the best part is that "we are a part of the Smith & Robertson family! We've gotten to know other clients so well, and we're always greeted with a hug."
The two of you came to my mind yesterday. I just wanted to mention to you that over the years I have come to really respect and appreciate how well you and Ron managed and executed the building of our house.
