Timberpeg is a national company that has been designing and fabricating high quality timber frame homes since 1974. They have a network of Independent Representatives located across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, and have completed over 3,000 timber frame projects. They use a modular system of design and engineering that allows complete flexibility in style, layout and size, providing the freedom to customize that is the hallmark of the design/build approach. Because of this, and the extraordinarily high quality of the frame packages, we at Smith & Robertson are proud to be the select Timberpeg Independent Representative for the Central Virginia Region.
Like so many of our customers, we love the natural warmth and beauty of solid wood timbers and the authenticity of mortise and tenon joinery, drilled and pegged with solid oak. With soaring open spaces, and soul soothing sanctuaries, Timberpeg homes are totally customizable to your site, your budget, and your lifestyle. Classic and timeless, a Timberpeg home is your personal showpiece.
As experienced mortise-and-tenon, post and beam builders, we long ago recognized that partnering with Timberpeg allowed us to streamline construction without sacrificing craftsmanship or design flexibility, and have since maintained a long-standing relationship with the nation’s premier timber frame manufacturer, Timberpeg, “the Artisans of Post and Beam.”
If you feel that a Timberpeg home is the right fit for you, Smith & Robertson, as the Independent Representative, will work alongside you step by step to develop your design, determine proper siting on your land, and ensure that the project will conform to your budget. When your Timberpeg package arrives, we erect the frame, and begin construction, a process that culminates in you joining a long list of satisfied customers who treasure their Timberpeg dream home.
While many prefer to use timber framing throughout the house, the Timberpeg system has the flexibility to allow us to hybridize with conventional “stick-built” framing styles. You may only want a post and beam great room, with other areas of the house built with standard 2 x 6 framing and sheetrock. This is easily accomplished, and commonly done.

Is your building site more than an hour from downtown Charlottesville?
We also offer design services and technical assistance to Timberpeg clients with homesites beyond our building radius. Utilizing our expertise, we can help find a capable local builder to complete the construction. Below are some Timberpeg Homes designed and detailed, but not built by Smith & Robertson.
Glenn Robertson allowed, tolerated, even encouraged us to have as much involvement in the process as we wanted.
